Job Posting: Executive Director

The Korean Legal Clinic (KLC) is a legal clinic providing culturally and linguistically appropriate legal services to low-income Korean individuals in Ontario. KLC is seeking an Executive Director to lead the overall legal services, operational, financial management, and fundraising activities. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will improve access to justice for Korean-Canadians by providing culturally and linguistically appropriate legal services, education, and resources.

Above all, the Executive Director must demonstrate a genuine dedication to KLC’s values and mission. The Executive Director should display a commitment to social justice and an understanding of the needs and challenges faced by low-income Korean communities. This is a part-time position and hours of work will range between 10 – 30 hours per week. Pay will be commensurate with experience.

Required Skills and Experience

The qualifications for the Executive Director position include the following:

· Fluency in Korean: reading, writing, and speaking
· Being a member of good standing with the Law Society of Ontario would be an asset
· Experience in KLC’s areas of practice, particularly in workers’ rights, immigration and refugee law, family law, and housing rights would be an asset
· A demonstrated ability to build and maintain good working relationship with partnership organizations and referral resources
· Superior problem-solving, negotiating and facilitation skills
· Strong management, administrative, communication, and leadership skills
· A demonstrated ability to develop and implement successful culturally specific programs

Key Responsibilities and Duties

· Oversee the day-to-day operations of KLC, subject to the Board’s instructions
· Provide and/or facilitate legal services to clients
· Monitor caseloads and assign files to legal service providers in KLC’s referral network
· Liaise with legal service providers in KLC’s referral network and serve as an interpreter between the legal service providers and clients when required
· Build and maintain community relationships with other community organizations and legal service providers in KLC’s referral network
· Attend weekly meetings with the Board’s Operations Committee
· Develop and manage programs and practices to ensure the delivery of high quality and accessible legal services
· Assist with developing and delivering public legal education seminars
· Attend the Board meetings and assist the Board with their duties to oversee KLC
· Communicate with funders and comply with their reporting requirements
· Ensure compliance with applicable legislation (federal, provincial, municipal). Legislated obligations include, but are not limited to, employment and workplace safety requirements, human rights, records retention, taxes, and privacy
· Attend meeting and events (both in person and virtually) with community partnership organizations
· Any other duties related to the Executive Director position as the Board may assign to you from time to time

The Executive Director position also includes the role of Project Coordinator and they must comply with the Law Foundation of Ontario (LFO)’s grant requirements. The Project Coordinator will facilitate various exigencies of KLC including, among others, data collection, process implementation, and conflict clearance.

The Project Coordinator’s duties include the following:

· Build and maintain a roster of Korean-speaking legal service providers who are available to offer services on a pro bono basis
· Monitor KLC email account and phone line for client inquires
· Manage client intake and performing conflict checks in connection with new clients
· Collect data in connection with KLC’s services
· Develop a Project Plan defining relevant workflow, timeline and suitable evaluation scheme for KLC
· Ensure that grant funds are only used for the purpose(s) approved by the Board of Trustees of LFO
· Complete narrative reports about KLC’s duties
· Submit financial reports in accordance with LFO’s Payment Schedule
· Adhere to all specified reporting guidelines required by LFO
· Ensure compliance with any requirement stipulated by LFO to maintain funding
· Any other duties related to the Project Coordinator position as the Board may assign to you from time to time

Working Arrangement

The working arrangement for this position has been classified as hybrid, where the employee will regularly flex their work location between home and KLC office. The specific application of this arrangement will be communicated to applicants contacted during the recruitment process.
